The Town of South Bruce Peninsula has been fined $100,000 following two convictions of damaging a bird habitat. The Piping Plover makes its nest on parts of Sauble Beach.
The convictions came down in October and the fine is $50,000 for each count.
In a posting on social media, South Bruce Peninsula Janice Jackson stated that part of the agreement of the fine was to give the money to Birds Canada for ongoing Plover recovery work, which could include work at Sauble Beach.
But Jackson also posted the town is appealing the decision, denying the town damaged habitat.
Jackson posts that the appeal will be paid for through a surplus in the summer's paid parking revenue which was about $180,000.
