Cyber security training offered to Huron County councillors

Huron County councillors are about to get some training in cybersecurity.

CAO Meighan Wark said they've had a program in place for some time now for staff, as a way of protecting county assets. But Wark said, as the scams become more frequent and more sophisticated, it was felt that including councillors in the training would be beneficial.

Wark said over the next few months they want to provide some training for members of county council who are not involved with the county systems on a daily basis.

"You really need to read your email address, you need to identify, even if there's one letter different from an email address that you normally correspond with, not to open attachments when you don't recognize the sender or the email seems a little bit fishy," she said.

Wark added scammers are very good at knowing who you regularly communicate with and topics you're interested in, so if an email looks even a little questionable, don't open any attachments and don't divulge any financial information.
