Bruce County Council elected Huron-Kinloss Mayor Mitch Twolan as warden for the sixth time during this morning’s inaugural session.
It was a tightly contested race between Anne Eadie and the incumbent Warden Mitch Twolan. Three secret ballots were held, each resulting in a tie vote.
In order to break the tie, the nominee’s names were placed into the ballot box, and Mitch Twolan’s name was selected. Twolan also served as Warden in 2007, 2015 to 2017 and 2019.
"It is a tremendous honour to have my council colleagues instil me with the responsibilities of Warden for another year. It is an exciting time here in Bruce County and I am looking forward to positively impact the lives of the people we serve,” said Warden Twolan in his address. “We have many priorities for the coming year... remaining steadfast in addressing the challenges at Brucelea Haven remains at the top of my list."
Other initiatives Twolan is anticipating, include advancing economic development by ensuring community readiness in support of Bruce Power’s Major Component Replacement (MCR) plans, the expansion of nuclear suppliers locally, and the Nuclear Innovation Institute, creating more affordable housing, transportation and needed infrastructure.
"That we will be the Hydrogen Capital of Canada, further advancing our power-to-gas hydrogen partnership and project," he said.
