Toddler run over by farm equipment

Police in Perth County are urging caution on farms after a two-year-old girl was accidentally run over by a piece of farming equipment.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on Tuesday at around 5 p.m., emergency crews responded to a rural residence east of Milverton following the accident.

The young child who had been run over suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital.

Police said everyone needs to recognize and be aware of dangers for children to be safe on farms.

"With more and bigger equipment being used in our farming operations, we must do what we can to assure our children's safety as well as our own," Perth County OPP said in a news release. "Before operating a piece of machinery, take the time to be aware of hazards or bystanders and always encourage children to play in a safe area."
