Owen Sound security company now employs four-legged drug sniffer

A security company in Owen Sound is getting more requests from their clients to check for drugs. That includes events and festivals.

Tom Wheildon of Fairmont Security says they have turned to a 16-month old black labrador retriever.

"He will be frontline when entry is made and any backpacks or purses or large bags that we may be suspicious of," said Wheildon.

And 'Zooz' has been trained to detect seven different types of narcotics.

"Different police agencies have reported the spike in methamphetamine and drug use in the area," said Wheildon.    "This is just another tool to help us.   He is a detection dog, he is an indicator. But we always defer to local authorities."

Wheildon says they have a large customer base stretching through Bruce, Grey and Dufferin counties.
