Fatal boating mishap in Colpoys Bay

The body of an unidentified man has been recovered from Colpoys Bay, just off Cape Croker.

Police were contacted late Friday night after several people heard calls for help from the area. Two civilian boats headed to the scene and found three men in the water. Two of the men were transported to hospital.

Police learned that a 16-foot vessel had sunk and there was a fourth person unaccounted for.

The Coast Guard, an OPP vessel, a Cape Croker police vessel and area residents started a search. The body of the missing man was recovered Saturday afternoon in about 20 feet of water.

Grey Bruce OPP arrested and charged a 39-year-old man for impaired operation of a vessel causing death.

The accused was released on an undertaking following a bail hearing. His next court date is on June 19 in Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.

Police are not identifying anyone involved in the incident at this time.
