The Municipality of South Huron has partnered with the Rural Institute of Ontario on a special project designed to boost civic engagement and leadership among local youth.
Community Services Manager, Scott Currie, says it's called Project Thrive.
“We're calling it Project Thrive. We feel it's that very important to include youth in community-building work, obviously they're our future. And truly if you want to be a sustainable community going forward you need to work to attract and retain youth.”
Currie says the goal of the project is to provide a road map for how to include the voice of young people in future planning.
“Sort of a road map for how to include the voice of young people in future planning. The content of that strategy is entirely up to youth. We're looking for them to provide some guidance and leadership to us on what's important to them and what projects need to be undertaken in the municipality.”
Currie says any young people between the ages of 15 and 29 who want to get involved in the project can contact the municipality through their web site or social media.
