North Huron considers options for former police station in Wingham

The Township of North Huron is considering the future of the former Wingham police building.

Director of Public Works Sean McGee has laid out five options for council to consider, including renting or selling the property, as well as re-purposing the property, or demolition.

Council members discussed various options, with Councillor Chris Palmer wondering if the building could be used as a storage area for council documents, while fellow Councillor Trevor Seip pushed for a Building Condition Assessment (BCA) before making a firm decision.

The building, which was the former Wingham Armouries, was designated as a heritage property in 1985. That means if council chooses demolition, it will have to be conducted in accordance with the Ontario Heritage Act.

Council will also consider a request from the Wingham Air Cadets to use the facility while the BCA is completed.
