Local senior targeted in prize scam

Scammers targeted a Walkerton senior with lottery prize fraud.

South Bruce OPP officers are investigating after the woman received a phone call indicated she had won a car.

The Cayley Street resident told a neighbour about the incident, and then called the police. No personal information was shared.

The scammers usually ask for a fee to be paid before they can release the prize, which never materializes.

Police suggest that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

How to Protect Yourself?

Known lotteries and sweepstakes will never request money to release a prize

Any phone call that you receive stating that you have won the lottery is fake!

To participate in a foreign lottery you must attend the country of origin and purchase a ticket in person

Do not share personal or financial information with anyone you have just met online or in person

Never under any circumstance send money for any reason

Always remember, Recognize it! Reject it! Report it!
