Local police confirm no threat to public safety after daytime arrest

Saugeen Shores police are expressing there is no threat to public safety after a daytime arrest in Port Elgin.

On Thursday, Saugeen Shores police were notified that a male was in possession of a firearm who had made threats toward officers on social media.

Officers located the male in question in Port Elgin walking down Goderich Street, and at that time police conducted a high-risk arrest with a heavy police presence on-scene. The male was apprehended without incident and the firearm was found to be fake.

A 34-year-old man has been charged with uttering threats to cause death. He was released with a future court date to answer to the charge.
