Bruce Peninsula challenge underway to raise money for an MRI

A big fundraising challenge is gaining momentum on the Bruce Peninsula to support the purchase of a new MRI at Owen Sound Regional Hospital.

The current unit is the oldest in the province and needs to be replaced.

The Walsh Family at Walsh's Garage on Highway 6 north of Ferndale got the community revved up by donating $5,000 to the Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation for the new MRI.

They challenged others to beat the donations and attracted over $15,000 more in donations.

So far, the Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation has raised $266,000 towards the $4.7 million needed for the MRI. The total raised to date by all five hospital foundations supporting Grey Bruce Health Services is $2,709,562. The new machine is expected to arrive later this year.

The current MRI is used over 11,000 times per year for patients from across Grey and Bruce to diagnose a range of medical conditions.

The next generation of MRI technology will offer a larger table and tunnel for comfort, reduced scan times, higher accuracy, and less noise.

Celtic Sports and Arts Camp quickly donated  $5,000, and then Miller’s Family Camp challenged all campgrounds in Grey Bruce to meet or exceed their donation of $5010!

Miller Lake Rona owners Dennis and Kathy Doidge are calling on all building centres in Grey Bruce to meet or exceed their donation of $5,030.

To  donate to the new MRI, please contact Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation, 369 Mary Street, Wiarton, Tel: 519-534-5856, email: [email protected] or go to www.bphsfoundation.com
