Huron County moves closer to decision on new administration building

Huron County staff are in the process of preparing a complete inventory of all county-owned buildings.

That information will be presented to county council before a decision can be made on whether it's worth putting more money into the maintenance of those buildings, or whether it makes more sense to divest themselves of them.

County CAO Meighan Wark said council can then decide whether there is an opportunity to take some of the money gained by selling off the older buildings and putting that money toward one new administration building.

Wark said it's difficult to anticipate what issues they might have to deal with in the future with the older buildings.

"There is a cost associated with doing that or whether or not council sees this as a time when we divest ourselves of these older facilities and we build one new facility that will be able to serve our needs right from the outset," she said.

Wark adds moving into a new administration building would provide the county with an opportunity to become a leader in environmental initiatives.
