Stratford man celebrates lottery win

A Stratford Man is celebrating a lottery win with a donation to his church.

71-year-old retiree Peter Mitchell won a $50,000 prize in the January 26 ONTARIO 49 draw.

Mitchell, a Ford retiree, discovered his windfall while at the retailer when the screen flashed "Big Winner". Mitchell first thought he won $5,000 and said he couldn't sleep after that.

The winning ticket was purchased at Food Basics on Ontario Street in Stratford.

The father of three and grandfather of four said he plans on travelling to the Caribbean and England, and saving for a rainy day.

“I buy INSTANT tickets, and often ONTARIO 49 and LOTTARIO,” said Mitchell, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up the cheque for his “first big win.”

“It’s a nice feeling inside – just amazing!” he added.
