All of Midwestern Ontario remains under an Extreme Cold Warning Monday.
Extreme Cold Warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frostbite and hypothermia.
Wind chill values will moderate Monday afternoon as winds ease. In the evening, temperatures will once again fall near -20 C and with light winds, wind chill values are expected to be near -30 C.
Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with the wind chill. And if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
A milder air mass will begin to move on Tuesday. Some areas could see rain by Wednesday.
