The Community Foundation Grey Bruce handed out $270,878. dollars at a celebration in Owen Sound. A total of 49 charities and not-for-profits from across the region received funding for a variety of community projects. Last night's gathering at the County of Grey Administration Building was also a chance to express gratitude to the organizations and individuals who endow funds and legacy gifts with the foundation. The money is invested, and profits support efforts to create a better future in Grey Bruce The funding will help The Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce lend Ipods and mechanical cats or dogs to dementia patients, and the Bruce Peninsula Sportsmen’s Association’s installation of boot-scrubbers on trails to stop the transfer of invasive plant seeds. Money also went to the Walter’s Falls Community Centre, Marsh Street Centre in Clarksburg, Kimberley Community Association and Harmony Centre in Owen Sound. Chair of the Foundation Board, Maureen Solecki, said "Since its inception in 1994, Community Foundation Grey Bruce has distributed a total of $3.8 million in grants to local charities. Grants, scholarships and bursaries totaling $722,000 will be disbursed by the end of 2018. Our work is making for positive change in Grey Bruce.
