Neustadt collision leads to weapons and possession charges

Two Hanover residents are scheduled to appear in Walkerton court Friday to face charges that were laid after a single-vehicle crash earlier this week in the village of Neustadt.

A pickup truck crashed into a hydro pole Monday night in the village. The driver, a 43-year-old Hanover man, was arrested after West Grey police suspected he was impaired by drugs. He was allegedly found to be in possession of what is believed to be heroin and cannabis.

Once transported to the police station, the driver allegedly refused to provide a breath sample. A charge of refuse to provide sample was laid, along with careless driving.

A further investigation led to weapons charges after police recovered four rifles in the pickup.

The vehicle's passenger, a 49-year-old woman from Hanover, was also charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Both the driver and passenger were to appear in Walkerton court Friday.
