School buses hit the roads

The return to school on Tuesday means an increase in pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle traffic including school buses.

Drivers are reminded to slow down, be mindful of student pedestrians and buses, and keep your eyes off your devices.

OPP officers have investigated over 5,600 collisions this year that involved an inattentive driver. Tragically, 31 people lost their lives in the collisions and over one thousand of the incidents left people with injuries.

Motorists must slow down in school safety zones, and be prepared to stop for buses, crossing guards, crosswalks, and pedestrians.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to speak to their children about road safety rules, as well as school bus and pedestrian safety.
