The colourful history of the Blyth Inn is featured in the next play to open at the Blyth Festival.
Artistic Director Gil Garratt explains the Inn, known locally as The Rubber Boot, was called the Commercial Hotel at one time, and has been operating on the corner of Queen and Dinsley streets since before Blyth was incorporated, and before there were sidewalks.
Garratt says they've been talking to people in the community, collecting stories about The Boot that date back to the 40s and 50s when there was an Escort and Ladies Only entrance, right into the prohibition days when Huron County was dry and they ran a bottle club out of there.
There are also stories of the wild years in the 1970s right up through the karaoke days of the early 2000s.
"Wing Night at the Boot" opens Friday night.
