More Local Money Down The Drain

Scams and cons continue to impact local residents.

South Bruce OPP report that a resident of Arran-Elderslie lost close to $6,000 through gift card payments last week after allowing a caller computer access.

Police are warning that con artists often request payments through gift cards, most notably iTunes gift cards and Steam online gaming gift cards.

Scammers will commonly use the name of a real company in order to gain your trust so that you will send money or personal information to them.

Meanwhile, the OPP in Perth County report they have investigated at least ten occurrences in the last month which involved residents sending electronic transfers of Bitcoins and gift card authorization codes to scammers.

Some have even provided personal and banking information and allowed callers access to home computers.

Once again, police stress that your best defence is to verify any unsolicited contact. Unsolicited means that you didn't ask for it.
