Natural Heritage Plan Info Sessions Coming In Huron County

Huron County's Planning Department is launching a new series of public information sessions on its Natural Heritage Plan.

Planning Director Sandra Weber explains in 2016 the Natural Heritage draft plan was reviewed at public information meetings and that information was brought back to county council for review. The direction from county council was that the mapping be updated based on the 2015 air photos and that further public consultation be completed, so drop-in information sessions have been scheduled for late May and early June.

Weber points out the Natural Heritage Plan is a background research document that councils can use to make decisions on planning for natural environment in the future, but does not automatically change designations on people's properties. She says it gets implemented at the time of a five-year review of the official plan and that's the time when a more detailed, site specific review and public consultation is one before there's any changes on people's properties.
