Huron Bruce MPP Proposes Great Lakes Day

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson has tabled legislation to proclaim June 7 of each year as Great Lakes Day in Ontario.

“Regardless of political stripe, we all share responsibility for the protection of our Great Lakes. A Great Lakes Day will provide an opportunity for all Ontarians to come together, promote best practices already employed, and continue to work for the preservation of this natural resource,” stated Thompson on Wednesday in the House.

The Great Lakes provide drinking water for 8.5-million Canadians and are a hub of economic and recreational activity in Ontario.

“With the Great Lakes Day Act, I am proud to follow in the Progressive Conservative legacy of conservation and environmental protection. The riding of Huron-Bruce has a significant section of coastline and the future of the Great Lakes is a priority for me, my constituents, and for all Ontarians,” concluded Thompson.
