North Huron And Huron East Consider Sharing Fire Chief

A new agreement will see a shared fire chief in North Huron and Huron East.

North Huron Council approved an agreement Monday night that would see current Huron East Fire Chief Marty Bedard take over chief services for both municipalities.

North Huron Reeve Neil Vincent says Huron East was on board in early discussions of the idea.

"Huron East was, in my understanding, very receptive to having a chief that's doing chief duties most of the time, and the idea of having a fire prevention officer that's zeroed in on fire prevention officer duties," he says.

North Huron would share Fire Prevention Officer Michael Roess as part of the agreement.

Huron East can ratify the deal at their council Tuesday Wednesday night, and the agreement would take effect May 1.

Reeve Vincent says in terms of the budget it's a win-win situation.

"There's definitely budgetary implications here where there is small savings for both of us," he says.
