Wedding Parties Forbidden On Goderich Pier

Goderich council has decided to prohibit weddings on its pier.

The decision was made in response to a request to hold a wedding on the pier.

Mayor Kevin Morrison and council agreed with the concern raised by Councillor Trevor Bazinet that the town has several scenic spots that would be ideal for wedding photos without the risks involved in having the wedding on the pier. Morrison says with no railings on the pier, it's not unreasonable to assume that some point someone could fall into the water during the event.

“Great idea, great scenery and everything else, however, you know you have to take a look at the real world today and a major issue that council saw and is it a liability and a major liability, a pier is not at all times a safe place, it's a major liability," says Morrison.

He adds that because the Goderich Harbour is a working harbour, the arrival of two or three ships would be disruptive for a wedding.
