Huron East Sheds Light On Garbage Collection Issue

The issue of garbage collection in Huron East now has a clear direction.

Brown's Sanitation informed the municipality that they would be ceasing collection operations on March 6. Brown's was originally going to continue until the beginning of the Waste Management contract on July 1. Waste Management was awarded the tender for garbage pickup in February, and will now begin collecting on March 13.

Huron East employees will be collecting the garbage in Seaforth, Egmondville and Harpurhey until that date, and until May, the same pickup schedule of Tuesdays and Thursdays will remain in effect. The same Brown's bag tags will be honoured until further notice, and can still be obtained at the following locations:

- Huron East Municipal Office - Beckers - GT Mini Mart - UPI - Pete’s Paper Clip

Huron East employees will continue to provide residential collection service on Wednesdays in Kippen, Brucefield and Hwy. 4 until Waste Management is ready for their conversion to a new system. Owners of multi-residential, commercial or industrial properties that were not using the bag tags will have to make alternate arrangements for waste collection pickups. Both Bluewater Recycling and Waste Management offer waste disposal bin services.
