Perth South Man Charged With Assaulting OPP Officer

A Perth South man has been charged after an incident involving an OPP officer in January.

On January 31 at 3:30pm, a Wellington County OPP officer attempted to stop a stolen pick-up truck at Tim Horton's in the town of Palmerston. The suspect allegedly rammed the officer's cruiser causing damage to the rear driver's side door. The officer was not hurt. The officer then chased the suspect but stopped due to concern for public safety. The truck was later located in Blyth, and had been set on fire.

The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Christopher Hutchinson of Perth South. A warrant has been issued for his arrest and he is currently in custody with another police service.

He is charged with flight while pursued by a peace officer, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
