New Funding To Help Newcomers Adjust In Grey Bruce

Grey Bruce has received funding to help newcomers adjust to the area.

The United Way of Grey Bruce and the Grey Bruce Welcoming Communities Committee has received over $161,000 for a project called Making Grey Bruce Home.

The United Way's Francesca Dobbyn says the money will be used to coordinate support services for present and anticipated refugees and vulnerable newcomers.

"It's a great thing we're absolutely thrilled. We've been trying to build newcomers services in the area certainly for a long long long time. I know we've done a few grant applications over the years so we're absolutely thrilled to see this one funded," says Dobbyn.

Dobbyn says the funding allows for two staff people. Once the project's up and running they'll create a toolkit to be used in other areas of the province. The money comes from the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration.
