The mayor of Goderich says the town continues to be a great place for seniors, but more young people from urban centres are relocating as well.
Kevin Morrison says as a business owner on The Square, he meets a lot of visitors, and he says 90% of the young people who are moving to Goderich first came as visitors and liked what they saw and experienced.
He says the availability of broadband service is a huge asset, because it allows people to work from their home so they no longer have to deal with a downtown Toronto commute.
Morrison cites an example of one family who sold a house in Scarborough for $3.2-million.
"Hey came here and paid cash, and now they have a lifestyle they're looking forward to and the fellow doesn't have to drive into the office in Toronto anymore because he works in the tech business, we have fiber optics here so he actually works from his home," he says. "I know of one politician from another municipality that, when he retires, he and his wife have full intentions of moving to Goderich to retire because of how they were treated during the OSUM conference last year. They asked for directions when they were staying at the Bedford Hotel and instead of giving directions, the person they asked said hop in the car, I'll drive you there."
