Environment Canada is urging midwestern Ontario residents to bundle and prepare for snow along with fridged temperatures.
There is still a risk of snow squalls on Friday afternoon and into the evening across southern Huron County. Snow squalls are expected to move further north across Bruce and Grey on Saturday.
An extreme cold warning remains in effect. Environment Canada is calling for a "prolonged period of very cold wind chills'' with some areas from west of Toronto to Quebec looking at temps in the -35 C to -40 C range with the wind chill."
The extreme cold could continue through Sunday morning.
Police and public health officials say there are several important factors in order to protect yourself from extreme cold conditions.
Dress in layers with a wind resistant outer layer. Synthetic and wool fabrics provide better insulation. Wear warm socks, gloves, a hat and a scarf in cold weather. Put a scarf over your nose to protect it.
Wear a face mask and goggles if you are outside for any length of time.
Avoid alcohol, because it may increase your risk of hypothermia. You may feel warm even though you are losing heat.
And if it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pets to stay outside.
