Mapleton Gets Federal Funding For Drayton Water Project

The Township of Mapleton will receive $38,500 in federal funding from the Canada-Ontario Clean Water and Wastewater Fund for the installation of six new watermain valves and the rehabilitation of two watermain valves in Drayton.

However, Perth-Wellington M.P. John Nater is critical of the timing of the announcement.

The start date for this project was May 1, yet the funding was not announced until July 19. Nater says this funding should have been announced along with the previous CWWF funding, which was released earlier this year.

Nater adds water and wastewater infrastructure funding continues to be slow and disorganized.

Under the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund, the federal government will provide 50% of the anticipated cost of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

"It is encouraging to know that the residents of Drayton will benefit from this much-needed funding," says Nater in a media release.  "Water and wastewater infrastructure projects remain a priority for many communities across Perth-Wellington. This is an issue I repeatedly highlighted to the government since being elected."
