Remarkable Women Honoured In Huron County

Almost 200 Remarkable Women of Huron County were recognized in a ceremony at the South Huron Recreation Centre Thursday night.

The event was co-hosted by Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson and South Huron Mayor Maureen Cole.

Cole says women in Huron County do a lot of amazing things that go unrecognized so a night to celebrate their achievements was a way of addressing that.

Cole is also the only woman who currently sits at county council, and she says that's a bit of a concern and hoped that last night's event might encourage a few more women to run for office

Former MPPs Helen Johns and Elizabeth Witmer attended last night's event. Former MPP Carol Mitchell was unable to attend, but did send her congratulations to the winners and the organizers of the event.
