Emergency Operations Training Taking Place In Stratford

A two-day Emergency Operations Centre training session is bringing together Perth County representatives to learn how to coordinate a response to a major emergency.

Facilitator Suzanne Bernier is the author of the book Disaster Heroes - Invisible Champions of Help, Hope, and Healing. She shares lessons from her travels to major disasters, where real heroes come together during response and recovery -- including the 9/11 attacks, Hurricane Katrina, the Haiti earthquake and the Japan tsunami.

Perth County Emergency Management Coordinator Dave Colvin says they need to work together, build partnerships, and share resources such as training to ensure they are sufficiently prepared.

Twenty four participants are taking part in the "Together We're Ready" session Monday and Tuesday at the Paramedic Service Headquarters in Stratford.

"This is an example of how our emergency management partnerships and joint training initiatives are delivered in a cost effective and meaningful way to ensure the communities in Perth County are properly prepared. This is especially important this week as we mark Paramedic Services Week " says Chief Linda Rockwood, who heads up the county’s Paramedic and Emergency Management programs.
