$300K In Grey, Bruce Community Grants

The Community Foundation Grey Bruce held a ceremony in Chesley to hand out over $300,000 in grants to 118 local charities and non-profit groups

Executive Director Stuart Reid says the organizations that received support from endowment funds ranged from a new junior achievement program for local schools, to a tooth fairy project to add toothbrushes in United Way backpacks for needy students.

"A lot of diversity that reflects the breadth of community activities in all aspects of life here in Grey Bruce, encompassing arts, culture, sports, education, the environment and general wellness," Reid says.

A social reception and the cheque presentations took place at the Klages Mill in Chesley last night.

Individuals or groups can provide endowment funds to the community foundation, which then uses the interest to support groups in the region.

In all this year the community foundation expects to hand out about $750,000 worth of funds.

Applications are being accepted June 1 from anyone interested in receiving a capital grant.

In the fall, applications for the next round of grants will be due in October.
