Grey OPP Remind Residents To Be Prepared For An Emergency

The Grey County OPP want residents to realize the importance of emergency preparedness.

This week is Emergency Preparedness Week, a nationwide effort to help reduce the risk and consequences of emergencies. The theme is year is "Plan, Prepare, and Be Aware."

Families should discuss an emergency plan ahead of time to reduce fear and anxiety. Talk about possible hazards in your area such as floods, tornadoes, winter storms and power outages.

Police say people should be ready to take care of themselves and their family for at least 72 hours in the event of an emergency. Your emergency survival kit should have fresh supplies to keep your family and pets comfortable. You should have two meeting places in case you need to leave your home or cannot return.

It's also a good idea to have an out of town relative or friend as a family contact.
