Hunter Fined, Suspended

A hunter will have to pay $4,000 in fines and is suspended from hunting for a year after an incident northeast of Wiarton.

A court heard that on October 18, 2016. Douglas Butcher of Inglewood discharged a firearm while hunting. It happened during a bird hunt on Griffith Island, a private sport shooting and hunting club, northeast of Wiarton.

During the hunt, Butcher discharged his firearm, striking another member of his hunting party with a number of pellets in the chest, arm and head.

Butcher, who plead guilty, will also have to complete the Ontario Hunter Education Course before hunting in the province again.
