Huron County Staff Asked To Recommend Budget Cuts

Huron County's warden says county council is still hoping to cut about $600,000 from this year's budget.

Jim Ginn says in meetings this week, they determined that's how much they would have to find to hold the budget increase at last year's rate of around four per cent.

Ginn explains they've sent the budget back to staff and asked if they were going to cut $600,000, where would those cuts come from. Council will then take a look at the results of that exercise and decide if they want to do that or not.

Ginn says the only other option is to increase the budget above last year's level, and they'll have to discuss their options at the next budget meeting.

Ginn adds the increased assessment would cover a 4% increase in spending, but right now they're at about 5.8%, so they have to find 1.8%.
