United Way Perth Huron Helps Boost Newcomer Services

The Centre for Employment and Learning is planning a "Newcomer Integration Services Program" to build on its English as a Second Language program.

The program will act as a referral hub for newcomers to access government and community services.

The centre will also provide guidance to newcomers, while sharing the positive benefits of attracting newcomers with employers and the community at large.

There are offices in Clinton, Exeter, Goderich, Listowel, Stratford, Seaforth and Wingham.

The centre says it will use funding from the Perth-Huron United Way to help 200 clients join local communities every year.

The United Way's $1.3-million campaign goal is an 8% increase as the organization moves toward providing three year funding to member organizations and programs.

Executive Director Ryan Erb says that gives their partners the time to achieve their goals.

“The benefits culturally and economically of welcoming newcomers to Perth and Huron counties are incredibly advantageous. It’s important that we help them with comprehensive information and good referrals, and ensure our community is ready to welcome them in," says spokesman Erin Jones.
