A Wingham man has been recognized for his ongoing contributions to the North Huron Fire Department.
For roughly ten years, 27-year-old Tyler McKay has volunteered his time with the North Huron Fire Department in Wingham and has never asked for anything in return, according to North Huron Fire Chief David Sparling.
Surrounded by all the firefighters, members of the media and his family, McKay received the surprise of his life on Monday night.
Sparling, on behalf of the Wingham Firefighters Association, handed McKay an engraved bronze trophy in recognition of his efforts and needless to say, he was speechless.
"This feels great, like I wasn't expecting anything like this before," says McKay. "I was shocked, my nerves were shocked, it was really amazing and an honour to have this tonight."
McKay says he's honoured to be recognized and says he plans to continue volunteering his time with fire department.
As for his favourite part of volunteering at the North Huron Fire Department in Wingham, McKay says,"Everything, just doing the job and seeing the trucks at the same time which is nice."
Not to mention the great group of guys he gets to work with and according to McKay, they truly are a great group of guys.
