Residents Learn More About Changes Planned At Bruce Telecom

Bruce Telecom shared future plans at a public meeting in Kincardine.

A presentation for residents at the Davidson Centre last night stressed the company is not for sale.

Council says it is committed to retaining the business and taking steps to ensure Bruce Telecom's long term viability.

Currently the company is governed by a Municipal Services Board. However, council says rules appropriate for local government, do not equip a business to manage plans in a highly competitive industry.

Council is considering a Municipal Services Corporation to operate the communications business, which they think will provide sustainability and growth.

The solution would help the company make agile and timely decisions , and obtain financing for future development without putting the debt on the municipality. The model would also continue to provide annual cash dividends to benefit local taxpayers.
