Goderich Council Concerned About Potential OPP Relocation

Goderich council has reacted to a notice from Infrastructure Ontario that it's considering moving the OPP detachment on Hwy. 21, just south of Goderich, to a more central location in the county.

Council approved a three-page motion that will be sent to Infrastructure Ontario outlining council's concerns.

CAO Larry McCabe says the notice did not identify a new location, but suggests that moving the detachment to a geographical centre, but away from the largest population centre, the courts, prisoner transfers, the mental health facility and the marine activities, is not likely going to improve service.

McCabe goes on to say council supports the idea of upgrading facilities, and suggests in some other counties the geographic centre might also be where the greatest population density is, but Goderich council has concerns about moving it away from the most populated urban centre, and is asking for some input into the discussion.
