OPP Concentrate On 'Big Four' This Thanksgiving Weekend

It's the Thanksgiving long weekend and you can be sure that provincial police will be watching closely for impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, and no seat belts.

A recent five-year report released by the OPP states that just over 1, 500 people died on OPP-patrolled roads and highways between 2011 and 2015.

Provincial Constable Kevin Martin of the South Bruce OPP Detachment would like to see all drivers do their part in helping to cut down on preventable collisions and fatalities.

"We know these behaviours lead to injury, we know these behaviours lead to death, don't take those chances, don't become a statistic," says Martin. "Be someone that contributes to road safety, contributes to your safety because it may sound dramatic, but the life you save could be your own; so let's make this happen."

"Operation Impact" runs through Thanksgiving Monday.
