North Huron Applies For Grant To Aid Aquatic Centre Renovation

A Canada 150 grant is being applied for to help with the aquatic centre renovations in Wingham.

North Huron Director of Recreation and Facilities Pat Newson says some major upgrades need to be done to the facility.

"Right now our aquatic centre needs a major renovation. It needs the liner replaced, and the environment has corroded some of the beams over the pool. It's looking like a $450,000 renovation project," says Newson. "The Canada 150 grant is a capital grant, one time opportunity, and we're going to apply for $150,000 to help offset some of those expenses."

Newson says the rest of the money will come out of the next two municipal budgets, and through some fundraising. She says any donations to the project are welcome. Newson also notes that the project would likely start in August of 2017.

"The notification of grant, if we receive it, we will hear by December 2016," says Newson. "The grant then must be spent between January 2017, and March 2018. The earliest we would start the work is August of 2017, but we may push that to January 2018."
