New Burn By-Law In Wellington North

Wellington North has a new burn bylaw which Councillor Lisa Hern says has been simplified and eliminates inconsistencies contained in the old bylaw.

Hern headed up the committee drafting the new burn bylaw.

She says she took an interest in the bylaw after a local farmer was billed $10,660 for what was deemed an illegal burn.

Wellington North council later reduced the bill to $6,396.

Under the new bylaw there is a formal appeal process whereby such a bill could be assessed by the courts, rather than municipal council.
