Grey Bruce Health Unit Says Beaches In The Region Are Open

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is reassuring people that all beaches in the region are open for the hot weekend ahead.

Spokesman Drew Ferguson says a fake website has surfaced that basically says all beaches in the province are closed.

"The website calls itself 'Health Inspections Canada.' It's not affiliated with government agency that we know of," he says. "The content of this website is absolutely untrustworthy, because it's indicating beaches across the province are closed."

Ferguson says the beach is one way for people to get some relief from the sweltering weather that is expected to stick around all weekend.

He says the most reliable source of beach information is your local public health website.

He adds most municipalities also offer cooling centres at public facilities for people who need to cool down.

In the meantime, Huron County Beach says Goderich St. Christopher's was the only beach to test over the provincial standard for E.coli on July 20. A number of beaches that tested high earlier this week are now safe for swimming.
