Man Rescued From Frigid Water in Owen Sound Harbour

Owen Sound Police are crediting the quick actions of witnesses in their efforts to help a man who jumped into the frigid water of the harbour near the Marine and Rail Museum.

According to eyewitnesses, the fully clothed man jumped from the harbour wall into the water just before 12:30 Sunday afternoon and began swimming away from shore when he ran into trouble.

This prompted witnesses to throw a life ring and encourage the man to hang on.

Police, fire and paramedics arrived and pulled the 49-year-old man from the water.

He was taken to Owen Sound hospital and treated for hypothermia.   Police say alcohol was not a factor.
