Squirrels Cause Rectory Fire in Cape Croker

An Ontario Fire Marshal Investigation has found a blaze that destroyed the St. Mary's Catholic Church Rectory in Cape Croker was accidental.

Bruce Peninsula OPP say the fire started at the unoccupied structure on Lighthouse road about 2am on Friday.

Damaged adds up to about $250,000.

The fire was originally deemed suspicious.

However, investigation revealed a nest of red squirrels in the attic rafters.  The rodents had chewed some of the wires, sparking the fire.
