Howick Adopt A Road Program Proposed

Efforts are underway to create an Adopt-a-Road Program in Howick Township.

Alana Dickert and Stephanie Reinink presented the proposal to council last night. They say the program provides a way for environmentally conscious citizens to make a personal contribution.

The public service program involves volunteers adopting a stretch of municipal road to keep clean and litter free. Their efforts would be recognized by a sign.

Safety restrictions ensure minors are supervised, and possibly hazardous materials are flagged for municipal pick up.

Volunteers must wear safety vests, and avoid picking up litter on the road surface itself, or on medians, bridges and other possibly hazardous areas.

Howick Township would have to provide gloves, road work signs, trash bags and first aid kits.
