Huron East Wins Two Business Awards

The municipality of Huron East has been awarded top honours in two categories by the Ontario Business Improvement Areas Association.

Huron East Economic Development Officer Jan Hawley explains the first was in the category of Outstanding Special Events and Promotions, and was titled 'Art Unhinged'.

Hawley says they found ten artists who used their talents to decorate old doors that were then auctioned off to raise money to fix the roof at the Seaforth Agri-Plex.

The second award was for a contest called 'Win this Space' in which new businesses competed for a chance to win free space on the main street of either Brussels or Seaforth for one year.   Hawley adds the contest sparked nine new businesses to open in Huron East, and that was done with a budget of about 20-thousand dollars.

The 'Win This Space' contest was so successful Hawley is getting set to launch a similar contest in Vanastra.
