Blyth Festival Announces 2016 Summer Line-up

If your looking for one more sign of spring other than the weather forecast for the rest of the week, the Blyth Festival has announced this summer's line-up, and opening night is just a couple of months away.

Artistic Director Gill Garratt says the goal this season, as it has been for 42 years now, is to tell the story of this region.

He also points out each year they're challenged to stretch the envelope a little, but without climbing out of it, and he says audiences let them know very quickly when they've gone too far.

Garratt also believes they have to take some risks and remembers the Outdoor Donnellys as the play with the greatest potential for things to go wrong.

There were no plans for rain and so on opening night when it poured, the actors and the audience took shelter in one of the sheds on the property, Garratt says. The play was finished without props or scenery.

The Blyth Festival season opens on June 15 and a complete list of this summer's plays can be found on the Blyth Festival website.
