Mid-Huron Landfill Site Could Be Converted When Full

Goderich Council has approved a recommendation from staff that the Mid-Huron Landfill Site be converted to a recycling station after it reaches capacity early in 2018.

Goderich, Bluewater, Central Huron, Huron East, Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, and Huron-Kinloss currently use the landfill site near Holmesville.

Goderich CAO and Mid-Huron Secretary Larry McCabe says Central Huron and Huron East are interested in joining Goderich in operating the site as a recycling depot.   He adds that any of the other three municipalities are welcome to join them.

The recycling depot would continue to accept things like tires, construction materials, and shingles but there will be no land-filling and it won't be a transfer site for conventional waste.

Goderich staff have been authorized to create a memorandum of understand to be sent to Central Huron and Huron East and any of the other municipalities who might be interested in using the Mid-Huron site as a recycling depot.
