Hydro One Summarizes Damage

Hydro One has tallied up the damage from the ice storm.

Crews cleared more than 50,000 trees, replaced over 180 poles, 41 transformers, and 141 cross arms as well as kilometres of line after the freezing rain and wind swept through southern parts of the province. Lightning and flooding also made work difficult.

At the height of the work, more 125,000 customers were in the dark.

Customers kept the call centre very busy with 150,000 calls, an average of 35 calls per minute, across the five days.

The clean-up job will continue as trees and equipment weakened by the storm will be cleared.

A workforce of more than 1,200 was on the job over the holiday weekend.
